The Happy Job Poll

A recent poll (January 2014) looked at how many UK workers were looking to move jobs in 2014 and the results at the time showed that almost 1 in 5 UK workers plan to leave their jobs this year. A full 19% of UK professionals are looking to move to a new role in 2014. On top of this, a further 31% were unsure as to whether they may look for a new job meaning up to half of the British workforce is contemplating professional change. Most people were looking for a similar role in a new company whilst slightly fewer (but still significant numbers at 39%) were thinking of trying a completely new field. One of the reasons cited for wanting to leave was a feeling of being undervalued in their current role.
So it got us thinking, can this be put down to New Year, fresh start syndrome? Or is it a sustained belief that people are still enthused to act on now the year has rolled on into spring? Also we are interested to find out whether the positive reports in the news on the economy are helping people to reassess their job security, is it now a case of employers having to do more to impress workers rather than workers just keeping their heads down, grateful to have a job in the first place? Is there a shift in the power base again?
So what do you think?
